Stainless Steel Pop Rivets FAQs

What are Stainless Steel Pop Rivets used for?

Stainless steel pop rivets are blind rivets for fastening sheet to sheet where you can only access one side. They are widely used in fabrication, HVAC, enclosures, vehicle bodywork and signage. The dome head type to ISO 15983 (equivalent to DIN 7337) is the standard trade choice.

Which material grade should I choose?

Pop rivets are most commonly available in aluminium and stainless steel. Aluminium rivets are lightweight and easy to set, making them popular for general or temporary applications. However, they are softer and can corrode when used with stainless or galvanised materials.

At Fixabolt®, we supply only A2 stainless steel pop rivets, chosen for their superior strength, long-term corrosion resistance and clean appearance. They are the professional choice for permanent, weather-resistant fixings in metal fabrication, cladding, ducting and enclosure work.

In short: aluminium is common for light jobs. A2 stainless is the trade standard for strength, durability and outdoor use

How do I pick the right size?

Two things matter: shank diameter and grip range.

Choose the diameter to suit the hole size and strength needed.

Choose the length so the grip range fully covers your total material thickness.

What is the standard for Dome Head Blind Rivets?

Dome head blind rivets are covered by ISO 15983. Many UK spec sheets still mention DIN 7337, which is commonly used as a legacy reference and is treated as equivalent in practice.

What tools do I need to set stainless pop rivets?

Use a hand, lever or pneumatic rivet gun with the correct nosepiece for the rivet diameter. For regular trade use or larger diameters, a lever or pneumatic tool speeds installation and gives consistent pulls.

What hole size should I drill?

Drill slightly above the rivet diameter to allow insertion without slop. Typical clearances are listed on the product pages per diameter. Ensure holes are clean and burr-free for best clamp.

How are grip ranges shown and how do I measure my stack?

Grip ranges are shown in millimetres, for example 2.5-4.5 mm. Measure the total thickness of all sheets being joined. Select a rivet with a grip range that completely covers that value.

Are stainless pop rivets magnetic?

A2 (304) stainless can show low magnetism at cold-worked areas such as the mandrel break. If very low magnetism is required, consider testing a sample.
