What Reisser R2 Screws are Used for
Reisser R2 screws are general-purpose wood screws for fixing into:
- Softwood and hardwood
- Sheet materials such as ply, OSB, MDF and chipboard
- Timber-to-timber joints (studwork, battens, noggins, carcassing)
- Timber-to-plate or bracket fixings (pan head variants are often preferred when you want clamping rather than a flush finish like you get with countersunk).
They are commonly chosen when you want fast installation, strong hold, and fewer issues with cam-out or snapped bits.
Standards and Materials
Reisser publish CE information and Declarations of Performance (DoP) for R2 screws under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Their R2 DoP documents reference BS EN 14592:2008 + A1:2012 (requirements for dowel-type fasteners used in timber structures).
Material and corrosion protection depend on the R2 variant:
Carbon steel versions are commonly supplied with yellow tropicalised or bright zinc plated finishes.
R2 Retinox is made from A2 stainless steel for higher corrosion resistance.
