M12 Coach Screws

M12 coach screws have a thread diameter of 12mm and are commonly used for fastening metal to wood or two or more pieces of timber. They’re sometimes referred to as M12 lag screws, although coach screws is the more widely used term in the UK.

M12 Coach Screw Dimensions

  • Thread Diameter: 12mm
  • Socket Size: 19mm
  • Head Height: 8mm
  • Head Type: Hexagon
  • Specification: DIN 571

M12 stainless steel coach screws are driven using a 19mm socket or spanner, making them easy to install and remove. The coarse thread provides strong grip in timber and reduces the risk of pull-out compared to finer threads.

M12 Stainless Steel Coach Screws 12mm DIN 571

M12 coach screws in stainless steel are used across a wide range of structural and outdoor applications, particularly where strength and corrosion resistance are important. Typical uses include fixing metal brackets to timber, securing posts, and heavy-duty timber connections.

For best results, drilling a pilot hole is recommended, especially in hardwoods, to reduce splitting and ensure a secure fit.

If a slightly smaller fixing is suitable, M10 coach screws are often used for lighter-duty applications where less load is involved, while still offering strong holding power in timber.
